David Lynch Foundation UK brings TM to disadvantages groups in Britain

Prisons

33 prisoners were taught to meditate in August 2019, as part of a collaborative project with a research team from the University of Westminster and Queen Mary's University. Psychological, behavioural and other benefits to prisoners who practised TM regularly are being assessed in a feasibility study that will be a preparation for a larger study potentially in multiple locations.

Quiet Time® with TM in schools and universities

1. The Quiet Time with TM programme was delivered 12 class teachers 55 children in a London primary school. A collaborative research team from University of Westminster and University College London undertook research using a combination of psychological and cognitive tests to assess the benefits.

Research results show that students who have been practising Quiet Time had shown significantly better outcomes on self-control, memory, and a wider variety of social ties; and the girls showed higher generosity. The findings will be ready for submission in February 2020

2. A small pilot project was run with 15 students at London University in May 2019 to test the feasibility of running further TM courses for university students in the next academic year.

3. DLF UK has also delivered a Quiet Time project in Ireland,  funded by a private donor. In 2019, 75 primary school children started to practise Quiet Time and 20 secondary school students have learned TM. Furthermore 24 school teachers have learned TM since September 2019. The project is being studied by researchers from University College Dublin and University of Westminster and will be compared to a control group of students at a separate primary school.
